2024 IN MUSIC: Unén

As we kick 2024 out the door and welcome 2025 with open arms, join us for a series of interviews with artists who’ve braved the year’s riffs, breakdowns, and questionable soundchecks. We’re diving into their triumphs, challenges, and everything that kept the music industry alive and kicking. We sat down with melodic metal act UNÉN to hear how they experienced 2024.

Hi there! Thanks so much for taking the time to answer these questions. This is a little recap about 2024, so let’s start off with the obvious, how was 2024 for you?

2024 has been an incredibly exciting year for us! We kicked it off with the announcement of our record deal with Frontiers Music Srl, which was a huge milestone for the band. We also worked really hard on finalizing our debut album and now it is something we’re extremely proud of. Over the summer, we were busy shooting a music video, which was an amazing experience. We also spent a lot of time composing and arranging new song ideas, pushing ourselves creatively. As the fall rolled in, we focused on refining our live performance skills, preparing for our very first gig, and diving into the technical side of our live shows. We were fully immersed in the process of getting the right gear and learning how to make everything run smoothly – it’s been an intense and rewarding ride!

You released some new music during 2024, how have the reactions been towards the two singles you released?

The feedback we’ve received so far has been really positive, which has been encouraging, though we’re always hoping for even more visibility. We’ve put a lot of time, energy, and resources into making this music, and we’ve been working hard to get it out there. Even with the support of our record label, gaining visibility is a tough challenge, especially as a new band. It’s been a bit of a struggle to break through, but we’re determined and excited to keep pushing forward!

Was most of 2024 spent on making music or did you do other things as well with Unén?

Music is the heart of everything we do – it’s our passion! So, most of our time has definitely been dedicated to music in some way. One of the highlights of this year was working on our music video – “My Love’s Broken.” It was such a great project that allowed each of us to learn new things and be actively involved in every step of the process. Outside of the music-making, we also made time to relax and bond as a band. We enjoyed some good times together, like hanging out during our evenings off and attending the Tuska Festival – it’s important to stay connected and have fun together!

Did you (re-)discover any music during 2024 that you’d like to share with our readers?

Since signing with our record label, we’ve been introduced to a lot of new inspiring new bands. Some of the bands that have been on heavy rotation on our playlists lately include DGM, AD INFINITUM, DELAIN, VOLA, DRACONIAN, and CEMETERY SKYLINE. There’s so much amazing music out there, and we love being able to discover and share these artists with our fans!

What does UNÉN have planned for 2025?

2025 is going to be an exciting year for UNÉN! The release of our debut album will be a really big moment for us. We’re hoping to play more and more shows as we grow, and we can’t wait to get out there and share our music live. We’ll also be diving into the writing and production of our second album, which is already starting to take shape. And of course, we’re looking forward to more music videos and other creative projects to bring our music to life in new ways. It’s going to be a year full of new adventures, and we’re ready to give it everything we’ve got!
