2024 IN MUSIC: The Funeral Portrait

As we kick 2024 out the door and welcome 2025 with open arms, join us for a series of interviews with artists who’ve braved the year’s riffs, breakdowns, and questionable soundchecks. We’re diving into their triumphs, challenges, and everything that kept the metal scene alive and kicking. We chatted with THE FUNERAL PORTRAIT to find out how the band headbanged their way through 2024.

Hi there! Thanks so much for taking the time to answer these questions. This is a little year-end recap, so let’s start off with the most obvious… How was 2024 for you?

2024 was an incredible year for us. It was a first for us to play our first stadium show and arena tour. To have a number 1 rock song at Billboard and to play a completely sold-out hometown show. We also were finally able to unleash our record “greetings from suffocate city” onto the world!

You released your debut album in 2024, so you must have been working quite long on it. How did you experience the release period?

This record took us over 5 years to complete. We probably wrote 40 different songs and worked in over 10 different studios just to find the right words to say. We’re so happy people have been enjoying it so far and we’ve just begun the process of what’s next for us.

Do you feel like releasing the album was your biggest achievement this year or were there any others?

I think it was just the starting point. We’ve been slowly releasing songs over the last few years to build up to this huge moment and now it’s just the start of something bigger than we could ever imagine.

Have you (re-)discovered any music you’d like to share with our readers?

We just recently re-released a new version of our song “Casanova.” It’s like 10 years in the making. It was the first song we ever released and now we’re excited to bring a new fresh sound to the song.

What plans do THE FUNERAL PORTRAIT have in 2025?

Lots of touring! And we want to start writing the next record! We write about feelings and everything we’ve been going through will make for a fun new record.
