2024 IN MUSIC: Fixation

As we kick 2024 out the door and welcome 2025 with open arms, join us for a series of interviews with artists who’ve braved the year’s riffs, breakdowns, and questionable soundchecks. We’re diving into their triumphs, challenges, and everything that kept the music industry alive and kicking. We sat down with Norwegian metalcore outfit FIXATION to hear how they experienced 2024.

Hi there! Thanks so much for taking the time to answer these questions about how 2024 has been for you. First of all, what were your biggest achievements of this year?

Hi, of course! Thank you so much for having us to do this. 2024 has been a great year for us. Mostly centered around the release of our mini-album “Speak In Tongues” which was a great success for us. The response and love that we received for that release have been bigger than anything. We have also had the pleasure to play some amazing festivals around Europe this year.

You performed at Tuska Festival for the first time this year, how was that experience for you and is there a moment that stuck out during that show?

Tuska was an incredible experience. Definitely one of the biggest stages we have played so far in our career and the amazing energy that the audience showed made it one of our favorite shows to play ever! The moments that really stick out are seeing people standing at the barricades on the front row and singing the lyrics back to us, it’s unbelievable!

You also have released a new EP, how have the reactions in general been?

The response for “Speak In Tongues” has been the best we’ve ever gotten. We were a little unsure of how fans were going to react to a heavier sound, but it has been nothing but love and has made us truly believe in the fact that we can create music that we love to create ourselves and people will listen and enjoy it!

Have you (re-)discovered any new music during 2024 that you’d like to share with our readers?

2024 has been a sort of nostalgic music year for me personally (Jonas Hansen). With the release of BRING ME THE HORIZON’s incredible new album “Post Human: Nex Gen,” which was a discovery in itself, it also triggered this nostalgic feeling and I went back and listened to a lot of emo/pop punk music that I loved in my teens. A band that I’ve never grown tired of is MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE, and with the news that they’re going to tour again next year, that has been the only band that’s been playing in my ears for the last month.

What does FIXATION have planned in 2025?

We are already back to working on new music. We are writing our second full-length album and we want to make it bigger than ever. We also have an upcoming tour in Finland with IMMINENCE in February, and we can’t wait to be back in your beautiful country! (even though last time we were there in February, Ola almost got frostbite in the -25 degree weather, haha). We have a lot of things planned as well, that we will be able to talk about in due time, but we can’t wait to see what 2025 will offer.
