2024 IN MUSIC: Aries Descendant

As we kick 2024 out the door and welcome 2025 with open arms, join us for a series of interviews with artists who’ve braved the year’s riffs, breakdowns, and questionable soundchecks. We’re diving into their triumphs, challenges, and everything that kept the music industry alive and kicking. We sat down with the symphonic metal act ARIES DESCENDANT to hear how they experienced 2024.

Hi there! Thanks so much for taking the time to do this interview. This is a short recap of what 2024 was like for you. Let’s start with the obvious, how was 2024 for you?

2024 was nothing short of transformative! From the release of “From the Ashes of Deceit” to the incredible support from fans and critics alike, it was a year of growth and creativity for ARIES DESCENDANT. Working alongside the immensely talented Nicklas Sonne has brought energy to our music, and it feels like we’ve truly hit our stride. It’s been a whirlwind, but one filled with unforgettable moments and milestones.

What musical goals did you set for 2024? Did you achieve them?

My main goal for 2024 was to elevate ARIES DESCENDANT’s sound and reach, ensuring our music resonated deeply with both longtime fans of Nicklas and me as well as new listeners. With “From the Ashes of Deceit,” I believe we achieved that and more. The album’s reception was beyond what we had hoped for, and seeing our songs connect with so many people around the world was incredibly rewarding. It’s humbling to set goals and see them come to life in such a profound way.

Were you able to dedicate as much of 2024 to your project/band as you had hoped?

Absolutely! 2024 was all about ARIES DESCENDANT. From our studio sessions to music video shoots and promotional work, this year was packed with opportunities to focus on the band. It wasn’t without its challenges, but every hour spent honing our craft and sharing our music felt purposeful. I’m grateful for Nicklas and our amazing record label Frontiers Music and the support system that made it possible to give so much of myself to this project.

What were some of the highlights you realized in 2024?

There are so many highlights to choose from! The release day of “From the Ashes of Deceit” stands out as a moment of pride and relief, knowing all our hard work had come to fruition. Collaborating with Nicklas Sonne was another highlight—his passion and expertise elevated our work. And, of course, seeing the album charting and receiving incredible feedback from the community was surreal.

Is there anything you learned during 2024?

If 2024 taught me anything, it’s the power of perseverance and collaboration. Every challenge—from creative blocks to logistical hurdles—was an opportunity to grow and adapt. I’ve learned to trust the process and embrace the unpredictable nature of the music industry. Additionally, I’ve come to appreciate how vital it is to stay authentic while pushing artistic boundaries. These lessons have made me not only a better musician but a better person.

Have you (re-)discovered any new music during 2024?

Yes! This year I’ve been diving into a mix of new and old influences. Discovering emerging artists in the symphonic metal and power metal scenes has been inspiring. At the same time, revisiting classics from bands like IN FLAMES and NIGHTWISH reminded me why I fell in love with music in the first place. It’s been exciting to find new gems while rekindling my passion for the music that shaped me.

What can we expect from you in 2025?

2025 is shaping up to be just as thrilling! We’re planning live shows, including some international dates, and I’m already working on new material for ARIES DESCENDANT. Expect deeper themes, bolder compositions, and maybe even a surprise collaboration or two. I’m committed to building on the momentum from 2024 and continuing to deliver music that speaks to the heart and soul. We have officially announced that we are playing ProgPower USA festival in Atlanta in September. Stay tuned—the journey is just beginning!
