As we bid farewell to 2023, come along with us for a series of interviews with a few artists. We’ll chat with them about their experiences, challenges, and successes throughout the year. These talks give you a close-up view of what happened in the metal music scene in 2023. We chatted with Samuli Peltola of SIRKUIT PREIKER to see how his electronic project has faired this year…
In 2023, SIRKUIT PREIKER released a new single, “Valheiden Isä.” You also performed at Helsinki Techfest. Do you overall feel like 2023 was a successful and productive year for you?
Yeah, we did four shows this year, that’s a fair amount for SIRKUIT PREIKER. I’ve actually been less productive than normal, but that’s not up to me. As someone famous once said: “There is a tide in the affairs of men…”
What was the biggest achievement in 2023 for SIRKUIT PREIKER?
The video for “Valheiden Isä” was shot at YO-Talo in February, which was our biggest show thus far at a classic hometown venue here in Tampere and the first chance to run big visuals that we always have synced with the songs. That was special.
What was the biggest lesson you learned in 2023 related to creating music?
Personally, I always aim to reinvent with music and mixing. The majority of 2023 actually went with studies regarding post-production. I’m currently really into sound design, starting from song ideas all the way up to full mixes while moving in a more electronic direction.
Have you (re-)discovered any new music during 2023?
A bit, found some good tracks on Spotify though. It’s challenging to discover fresh and interesting metal tunes. This week I’ve been listening to TEN56. and THROWN, which are relatively new to me. I attempted to enjoy phonk, but ended up disliking how it’s mixed.
What can we expect from you in 2024?
Hard to say – I try to live in the moment.
