2023 IN MUSIC: Our Hands Tied

As we bid farewell to 2023, come along with us for a series of interviews with a few artists. We’ll chat with them about their experiences, challenges, and successes throughout the year. These talks give you a close-up view of what happened in the metal music scene in 2023. We chatted with OUR HANDS TIED to see how the metalcore band have experienced 2023.

While OUR HANDS TIED released their debut single in 2022, you released two singles in 2023, “white noise” and “Personal Narrative,” did you spend most of 2023 writing new music?

Yes, indeed! We’ve been working hard throughout the entire year on new material. We have written four new songs for the upcoming year 2024. We’ve also started working on our first EP, which will be released later down the line.

What other goals had you set for the band in 2023 and do you feel like you were able to achieve them all?

Our main goals for 2023 were to successfully release “white noise” and “Personal Narrative” and to expand our presence on social media, growing our fanbase. We’ve seen significant growth on social media, and with the releases of “white noise” in April and “Personal Narrative” in November, we are set to achieve these goals.

One of our initial goals for the year was to play more shows in 2023. Although we did have a couple of performances, we feel that we could have done more in this aspect, and it’s something we plan to focus on next year.

While creating and releasing new music, what were the most important lessons you learned this year that you’ll remember forever?

The most important lesson we’ve learned this year is that the process of releasing music doesn’t stop on the release date. The songs will continue to need our support even after the release. We’ve had the same lineup for a few years now, and during this time, especially this year, we’ve grown as a band by learning to complement each other’s strengths and weaknesses, both musically and interpersonally.

Did you (re-)discover any new music during 2023?

Bands like BRING ME THE HORIZON, BAD OMENS, and SPIRITBOX have been on heavy rotation for all of us. SLEEP TOKEN is something we discovered this year. As for rediscovering music, we’ve been listening to MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE and older ASKING ALEXANDRIA, maybe even a little bit too much.

What can we expect from OUR HANDS TIED in 2024,

We are releasing four new singles in 2024. Each of the singles represents a different facet of our sound, and we are very excited to share them with you! We’re also focusing on playing more shows. Hope to see you there!
