Having released a new single, “In Lieu with Flowers,” in 2022, we decided to catch up with melodic death metal act BLOODRED HOURGLASS, to see what other things they have been up to in 2022. We chatted with drummer Jarkko Hyvönen about what 2022 was like for them. Read the complete interview below…
What musical goals did you set for 2022? Did you achieve them?
First of all, the main goal for this year has been to hit the stages once again and fight our way to be the absolute top entertainers of the scene. Secondly, songwriting and pre-producing our next album. With the first one we achieved suberbly our goal, but the second one is still ongoing. But hey, there’s still time before the year ends!
Were you able to dedicate as much of 2022 to your project/band as you had hoped?
In a way, yes, but some extra weeks/month with no other responsibilities would have been nice to have, as it really has been a busy year with shows and at the same time pre-producing new material.
What were some of the highlights you realized in 2022?
Summer festivals overall are worth mentioning after two summers of restrictions. Tuska, Knotfest Finland, and John Smith Rock Festival were maybe the top highlights with the biggest audiences and top-notch shows. Signing a worldwide management deal with Till Dawn They Count and getting a new boost for the booking by Master Events will provide us with lots of fun in the future, as well!
Is there anything you learned during 2022?
As everything gets more serious, everything has to be better pre-planned. You can not just go with the flow, which sometimes tends to be a challenge.
Have you (re-)discovered any new music during 2022?
Some new metal discoveries: LORNA SHORE, BAD OMENS, CURRENTS, AWAKE AGAIN, re-discovering INSOMNIUM… As we have been quite stuck with new BRHG material, it’s quite obvious to find new tunes from other genres, as well: Jeremiah Kane, KALANDRA, HEILUNG, CLANN, Henry Jackman, CARPENTER BRUT, Daniel Deluxe… just to mention some!
What can we expect from you in 2023?
In February 2023 we will finally hit Europe again as we’ll be touring with TURMION KÄTILÖT. After that, sliding towards festival season in and outside of Finland, taking over bigger and bigger stages. Later in the year, as icing on the cake, we will also release a brand new album!
