2021 IN MUSIC: Viktor Gullichsen (Brymir)

It has been 2 years since we have heard new music from the BRYMIR camp. Nevertheless, the band recently landed a record deal with Napalm Records and there are possibly new winds on the horizon for the epic metal band in 2022. We talked with vocalist Viktor Gullichsen to see what 2021 was like for him and BRYMIR.

What musical goals did you set for 2021? Did you achieve them?

This is going to be quite a dark one! As the year 2021 started with dark omens, we immediately decided to have zero expectations regarding shows and aimed at just working on our next album. And I must say – that was much harder than I ever could have imagined.

Playing live (with all the adrenaline, epic travels, and musical camaraderie shared by the five of us that goes with it) is such a big part of what fuels the writing process.

However, hope returned in troves with the news of BRYMIR signing with Napalm Records and our hearts once again filled with the echoes of howling crowds, rumbling tour busses, and guitars wailing to thundering blast beats… and it put us right back on track towards creating our best record to date.

Our goal was to be a bit further along with the album recordings, but hey… getting your inspiration restored in times like these is an achievement by itself. Game on!

Were you able to dedicate as much of 2021 to your project/band as you had hoped?

Like with many bands in the industry, some of us had to find alternative sources of income as there are no opportunities for shows. This unfortunately created periods when we had to pause our studio sessions – recently we have been able to continue without compromise.

What were some of the highlights you realized in 2021?

The highest highlight must definitely be signing with Napalm Records. This offers us a totally new dimension of opportunity for international success and soon you will see the epic things this new partnership can help us achieve!

Is there anything you learned during 2021?

Never take anything for granted. And that in times like these all you really can do is try to stay positive… even while remaining negative! Say what?!

Have you (re-)discovered any new music during 2021?

Talking about rediscovery – DECAPITATED has hit me like a truck (of love) recently. “Kill The Cult”!

What can we expect from you in 2022?

Assuming the pandemic cools down in 2022, you can expect nothing less than BRYMIR ascending to the next level through the release of our new record. Then.. let the worldwide touring begin.

We are holding quite the hand of cards and can’t wait to play it!
