A couple of weeks ago we asked you to vote your favorite of a list of 50 albums that we thought were pretty cool during the decade. The votes are in, and now we’ll check what were your favorites albums of 2019. We also included a top 10 with only Finnish releases below.

Best metal album of 2010 – 2019

10. Wilderun – Veil Of Imagination (2019)

Hailing from the States, WILDERUN came to our attention with their latest release “Veil Of Imagination”, which turn out to be one of the best progressive metal releases of the year. With “Veil Of Imagination”, WILDERUN have established themselves as one of the most exciting young voices in the modern progressive metal scene, blending elements from genres such as folk, symphonic metal, with melodic death metal.

9. Insomnium – Shadows Of The Dying Sun (2014)

With “Shadows Of The Dying Sun” INSOMNIUM reached a new level of excellence in their songwriting and performance, becoming one of the most interesting melodic death metal releases of the decade.

8. Metallica – Hardwired… to Self-Destruct (2016)

Make no mistake “Hardwired… to Self-Destruct” is easily METALLICA’s best album since 1991’s landmark self-titled LP. Since its release, “Hardwired…To Self-Destruct” has been met with immense praise, so no wonder our readers thought this album deserved a spot in the top 10 of the decade.

7. Amorphis – Queen Of Time (2018)

“Queen of Time” by AMORPHIS immediately caught our attention in 2018. We even voted the album as the best Finnish release of 2018. With “Queen Of Time”, AMORPHIS progressed beyond genres to something almost indescribable, getting their influences from folk, power metal, and melodic death metal with here and there some progressive elements. 6. Ghost – Opus Eponymous (2012)

The back then completely anonymous Swedish heavy metal act surprised the world with their debut effort “Opus Eponymous” and ever since have been conquering the world with their Satanistic tunes. Their image and their music go hand in hand when it comes to quality and deliberateness. “Opus Eponymous” was a perfect start for GHOST and a breath of fresh air in the metal world.

5. Behemoth – The Satanist (2013)

BEHEMOTH‘s “The Satanist” may as well be considered as the band’s finest album up-to-date. Critics all over the world have praised the album for being original, inspired and excellent, no wonder our readers voted the album in the top 10 of the decade.

4. Nightwish – Imaginaerum (2011)

“Imaginaerum” offers such variety and depth to music as a whole and is easily one of the best NIGHTWISH albums to date. The creativity and talent of NIGHTWISH is undeniable, as no two tracks sound alike, and the band manages to take you on a wild journey that your eardrums soon won’t forget.

3. Tool – Fear Inoculum (2019)

After a decade of waiting, TOOL finally released their highly anticipated “Fear Inocolum”. As with any TOOL album maybe you will not get really into the music after a first listen, but the album, in general, takes you on a challenging journey and is filled with masterfully crafted beautiful compositions. 2. Gojira – Magma (2016)

In 2016, GOJIRA unleashed their last album “Magma” on the world. An album that is filled with passion, conviction and genuine artistry. It serves as a reminder as to why GOJIRA is one of the most important contemporary progressive metal bands of the decade and fills a well-deserved second place in our readers’ choice ranking.

1. Alien Weaponry – Tū (2018)

In “Tū”, ALIEN WEAPONRY wield their crunchy thrash sound with confidence, combining it with the thunderous rhythm for a maximum effect. The debut album sounds like a new breed of crossover, replacing speed by groove, but still remaining deeply rooted in the thrash metal scene.

10. Metal De Facto – Imperium Romanum

With organic and edgy production, the heavily guitar-oriented tracks come across as nostalgic, but at the same time manage to keep a modern identity. METAL DE FACTO has managed to give us one of the best power metal releases of the year, nay decade! Read our review here.

9. Cain’s Offering – Stormcrow (2016)

CAIN’S OFFERING created an album that is equally as good as anything that ever came out during the golden days of Finnish power metal. It is highly recommended to anyone that misses the old school days when Finland seemed to be churning out one power metal masterpiece after another.

8. Everfrost – Winterider

With “Winterider”, the Finnish wintry themed metal band created a unique and immerse sophomore full-length album that showcases the talent of skilled musicians involved in the project. Read our review here.

7. Moonsorrow – Jumalten Aika (2016)

What differentiates “Jumalten aika” from its predecessors is its more folky feel. Perhaps that’s why MOONSORROW‘s “Jumalten Aika” is one of the band’s best albums up-to-date. Listening to “Jumalten Aika” uninterrupted from start to finish becomes an experience worth striving for.

6. Beast In Black – Berserker

When Anton Kabanen got fired from his previous band BATTLE BEAST, no one could have foreseen that Finland’s finest guitarist, would retaliate with a band like BEAST IN BLACK. Their debut “Berserker” recently earned the band their first golden record, and we’re pretty sure there are still many to come. Read our review here.

5. Brymir – Wings Of Fire

Groovy, fast-paced riffs, spiraling guitar melodies, shredding solos, insane rhythm sections (varying from heavy metal rhythms to extreme blast beats), incredible hooks, you name it. By combining all of these elements with the outstanding orchestrations and epic choirs in “Wings Of Fire”BRYMIR have definitely managed to create an album lacking any lows. Read our review here.

4. Whispered – Metsusan – Songs Of The Void

With “Metasusan – Songs Of The Void” WHISPERED have created a record to be remembered as a high-quality melodic death metal release that wants to entertain and invigorate us, unique in its genre.
